The Alaia's roots go back centuries but there has been a recent resurgence in its popularity. Also known as ‘Itaka’ in Japan this thin board relies on the sharpness of the edges to face the wave rather than fins. Made out of Paulownia wood which is strong yet light and less water absorbent than other woods this Alaia has minimal impact on the environment.
Rob has spent time on Braunton Burrows with local botanist Mary Breeds to capture the images of rare plants and flowers on this unique and beautiful board.
This board is created to be surfed but is equally at home as a piece of artwork in its own right.
